phuket story

Phuket (ภูเก็ต) pronounced (roughly) "poo-get", is Thailand's largest island. It is 48 km in length, 21 km at its widest, and is located in Southern Thailand, on the west-facing Andaman Sea coastline, suspended from the southern tip of Phang Nga Province by a pair of short but substantial road bridges.

The major beaches from north to south are:
Mai khao (Sai Kaeo) - near the airport, very quiet (aside from the planes!) and far away from it all

Nai Thon and Nai Yang - two quiet beaches in Sirinat National Park
Bang Thao (Laguna Beach) - long, very quiet beach
Surin and Pansea Beach - an up-and-coming upmarket destination
Laem Sing - small bay with stunning views, between Kamala Beach and Surin Beach
Kamala Beach - a quieter beach to the north of Patong
Kalim Beach - a series of small beaches just to the north of Patong
Patong Beach - the largest beach resort, known for its nightlife
Karon and Karon Noi Beaches - the second most-developed beach after Patong
Kata Yai Beach - busy, clean tourist beach with good surf
Nai Han and Ao Sen - a quiet beach (probably the best) in the south, near Phromthep Cape view point
Ya Nui Beach Rawai,Mittraphap and Laem Ka - set off point for lots of local islands, popular with locals for eating on the beach
Cape Panwa - home to Phuket Aquarium

Phuket Simon Cabaret This hugely popular tourist attraction, on the hill just outside Patong, has been wowing audiences for years with its exotic, hilarious, often risqué, transvestite cabaret.
The show features a spectacular musical floor show performed by the famous "ladyboys" of Simon Cabaret. See for yourself. Can you tell the difference?
Stunning costumes, bright lights, an excellent sound system and expensive sets are all part of this theatrical extravaganza. An experience not to be missed.

Phuket Restaurant Guide It doesn't matter how many options there are, if you don't know about them, what's the point? If you've no way to compare them, how can you decide?
Yet dining out – whether for a special occasion at a restaurant brimming with atmosphere, or for a casual lunch, local Thai-style – is probably the most important, and potentially one of the most memorable, elements of your visit to Phuket.
Without real information, too many visitors take pot-luck, or go with the tuk-tuk driver's commission-based recommendation. Many stay with one or two familiar places, having had one disappointment too many – and no time to waste.
Most miss out on the fabulous array of dining opportunities Phuket offers.
And that's where Where to Eat comes in: Consistent, reliable up-to-date information that puts the choice where it belongs – with you, the guest.

Much to see and do on this beach. You’d almost thought that the tsunami tragedy never affected the island in any way. Shopping in Phuket isn’t exactly cheap though, except maybe for the seafood. We had a good seafood dinner which came up to around 300Baht (RM30) per person. After dinner, we decided to wander around the streets… like any adventurous tourist would do.

Phuket Culture
Phuket(Thailand) culture is one of the most colorful and interesting in the world, and has in large part been shaped by the countries dominant religion. Around 95% of Thailand’s population is Buddhist, and evidence of this can be seen absolutely everywhere. There are many signs of Buddhism threaded into every day life in Phuket, and temples are the most obvious. Wat Chalong (the largest temple on the island) is a great place to witness first hand the uniqueness and beauty of this eastern religion. Orange robed monks are frequently seen walking the streets, and statues of the Buddha can be found absolutely everywhere.

An interesting characteristic of Thailand , when compared to many other southeastern countries, is the fact that women are actively involved in business affairs and the arts.Thai is the country’s official language, with Lao, Chinese, Malay, and Mon-Khmer also spoken. English is taught in secondary schools and is also used in government and commerce. In most tourist areas, communicating in English is not a problem.Known as the land of 1000 smiles, the Thai people are some of the friendliest in the world. At times, a simple smile is all it takes to break down a language barrier.Thais are very respectful of the King and as a tourist you should be aware the any offences against the King could be punishable. Also everyone is expected to stand when the national anthem is played.
